Joint Laboratory of Biotechnology and Enzyme Catalysis
The Joint Laboratory of Biotechnology and Enzyme Catalysis is a platform combining the research potentials of Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences (ICSC PAS), Institute of Plant Physiology, Polish Academy of Sciences (IPP PAS) and Institute of Biology, Pedagogical University of Krakow (IB UP) in the field of biochemistry and biotechnology. The main focus of JLBEC is to provide free access to research equipment for Laboratory researchers and to join the expertise in the field of chemistry, catalysis, biology and biochemistry.
JLBEC was founded in 2002 as a result of a mutual agreement between ICSC PAS and IPP PAS. IB UP joined JLBEC in 2021.
The research conducted by JLBEC is interdisciplinary. Their scope comprises of study in the field of chemistry, biochemistry and biology and combines experimental and theoretical approaches. The multidisciplinary character of the Laboratory gives a unique opportunity for PhD and graduate students to receive scientific supervision of experts from different fields of science.
The Joint Laboratory of Biotechnology and Enzyme Catalysis is an open organization that looks forward to establishing cooperation both with Krakow and international research institutions, which are interested in scientific collaboration.
Guidelines to Laboratory Function
-
The Laboratory Heads appointed by ICSC PAS, IPP PAS Deputy Directors for Research and IB PU Director are responsible for the scientific program and smooth research performance of the Laboratory.
-
The Laboratory's staff comprises employees of all participant institutions that are conducting their research according to the plans settled before.
-
The expenses of research, especially the cost of reagents purchase, are divided evenly among the participants. However, equipment maintenance is covered by its owner.
-
The research results are published under the banner of all participant Institutions, which are involved in the study.
