The FAERACTION project focuses on the study of biochemistry and mechanism of novel class enzymes, that catalyze the radical addition of fumarate to a range of chemically inter hydrocarbon compounds. The fumarate adding enzymes (FAE) belong to the subclass of radical glycine enzymes. They are highly sensitive to inactivation by molecular oxygen and require special activating enzyme for their activity. The project is conducted in close cooperation with the research group of Prof. Dr. Johann Heider from the Department of Biology, Microbiology of Marburg University.
The PhD project will focus on the development of the biotechnological methods for the synthesis of valuable chemicals based on bacterial systems expressing FAE enzymes. The PhD student will also develop analytical methods that will be used in the project and conduct kinetic studies of the enzymes.
We offer:
Work in a very nice and dynamic group of Theoretical and Experimental Biocatalysis in ICSC PAS,
Involvement in Polish-German research project,
A very interesting cutting-edge project,
Opportunity to develop unique skills in the field of chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, and biotechnology.
We are looking for candidates:
graduated in biological chemistry, medical chemistry, biotechnology, biophysics, biochemistry or biology
highly motivated and eager to advance their career into scientific research,
with good laboratory skills
experience in microbiology or molecular biology will be a plus,
with very good fluency in English (knowledge of German would be beneficial),
with the ability to conduct a significant portion of the PhD in Marburg (high mobility requirements).
